Kris is the founder of Lawrence, KS based non-profit farmed animal sanctuary, Shy 38 Inc. The sanctuary was founded in 2015 after Kris and her family lived in a house next to a farmer's herd of cows. The sanctuary's mission is to change public perception of animals raised for food, offer humane education programs to local youth and provide a safe space for their 200 rescued residents including horses, cows, pigs, sheep, goats and over 70 roosters. 

As a lifelong vegetarian and vegan for over a decade, Elizabeth started working with Shy 38 in the spring of 2022. She has been a licensed teacher since 2012, and currently works as a senior training developer. She has a passion for both helping animals and teaching people. 

Nicole Green (she/her) is the Director of Animalearn, a national advocacy program focused on helping educators and students find innovative non-animal science teaching resources for K-12 classrooms and beyond.  For over 20 years she has strived to make a difference for animals used in education.

Nicole holds an MA in Education and Innovation with an emphasis on Humane Education. She has served as a Board Member and Board Advisor for APHE. Currently Nicole serves on the Advisory Board for CurioXR, a virtual reality tech company developing VR dissection experiences. 

Alisa Brooks is the Associate Director of Animalearn and the Administrator of The Science Bank, the largest lending library of humane non-animal alternatives in the U.S. Alisa has a B.S. in Education, with a focus on Early Childhood and Elementary Education and has previously worked as a veterinary technician. Alisa is able to use her education and background in veterinary medicine to inform others of the benefits of non-animal teaching methods in education from Kindergarten through College, including veterinary programs. She enjoys spending time with her human and animal family.
